Support local farms!

News update:
I've moved to Augusta! Yay. The apartment's nice and so is the roomate. We'll see how the medical school part goes down.
It's extremely hot here. It's 38 Celsius today and feels like more. I'm not kidding. But this is Georgia summer for you. It'll be this way again. And probably worse in late July.
Also... there's an abundance of little farms and roadside stands around here. As i drove down the highway, i saw one of these little stands peddling some particular wares... "STRAWBERRIES" said the sign. Oooh.... the last time i had fresh, fresh handpicked strawberries... was... Vienna? A year ago? Could it be? Quick u-turn... i stepped up to the stand, half-expecting to speak German to the old man, my mind was so full of memories from europe... but no, alas, he spoke English and with a very southern dialect. A few bucks gone... and a bucket full of berries were mine. Big, beautiful berries like this...

Only later did i realize the copious amount of berries i had bought. It was a gallon bucket i believe. What's that, 3 litres? Overflowing.
Step 1: Strawberry banana smoothies shared with roomie.
Step 2: Eat berries for breakfast
Step 3: More smoothies...
Yet i still had more. I can't possibly eat all of these before they rot. So i resorted to the fine southern tradition called "putting up the food".
Putting up the food: verb, slang. common phrase for preparing then freezing or preserving the food in some other manner.
(my definition)
Simple enough with strawberries. Wash, cut off the tops, put in container and freeze.
I actually had to do it with some scallions today too that were soon-to-be-going-bad.
Yes and all the trimmings i threw into the tiny little garden area out my back door. I'll either have strawberries or compost. We'll see.
